Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2.18.446.117 įW: Symantec Endpoint Protection *Enabled* Run by administrator at 16:30:05.93 on Fri Here is the DDS log and the attach and GMER logs are attached. I was close to reformatting this machine but it appears I have lost the partition on the hard drive containing the re-installation files (maybe when disabling System restore?), and I do not have the correct disks. Here is the MBAM log:Ĭ:\WINDOWS\Temp\cleanwipe\app\esugdlgcontrol.exe (Malware.Gen) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.Ĭ:\WINDOWS\Temp\cleanwipe\app\ESUGMSI.exe (Malware.Gen) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.

Multiple attempts to resintall SEP have resulted in the same symptoms, and MBAM is now picking up infected files (Malware.gen) in the cleanwipe folder repeatedly, which after cleaning they reappear, and I cannot find any instructions on how to uninstall the cleanwipe utility. An Eset online scan came up clean, as did SEP scans, but the symptoms remained. An initial Malwarebytes scan turned up a rootkit: 15.tmp (Rootkit.TDSS), which was quarantined and deleted successfully. I ran TDSS killer multiple times and it turned up nothing. I ran TFC and cleaned out all the temporary files. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling SEP (after using Cleanwipe) to no avail. Computer runs sluggish, and Symantec now shuts itself off, at least with every restart.

After following the Symantec instructions for removal (update SEP, disable System restore, run full scan) symptoms still remain. Symantec Endpoint had detected trojan.zefarch among a few other bugs. I have an HP desktop running XP Pro with Service Pack 3.
